This Friday we are sponsoring a service project: the Luo Pad Trace & Cut Event. We will be at Old Brick in the Common Room (bottom floor, underneath the main room. Enter from door on Clinton St. or parking lot door. Look for the Bridges signs!) this Friday, February 4 from 7-9pm. We have all the fabric, templates, and scissors. All you have to do is trace the pattern and cut it out. No experience necessary!
“Luo” is Greek for “to loose, release, or free”
and the Luo Pads, which we will be tracing and cutting from fabric, will be sent to an organization we are partnering with, Unto. Unto sews the fabric into washable sanitary pads and distributes them wherever environment and poverty prevent girls and women from accessing basic sanitary needs. They will be sent to areas such as refugee camps, remote villages, and other under-resourced places. Research has shown that in parts of South Asia and Africa girls can miss up to 25% of their schooling due to lack of access to feminine products. We hope to be a small part of the solution as we trace and cut fabric. We encourage men to be involved as well as we work together to alleviate basic needs for those in under-resourced places!
